Skin Fades in Saltaire
Sharp fades, proper blending. £18, about 40 minutes.
What is a skin fade?
A skin fade starts at the skin — or very close to it — at the bottom, and gradually blends into longer hair on top. The result is a clean, sharp look with a smooth gradient from nothing to whatever length you want up top.
There are three main types. A low fade starts just above the ear and keeps most of the sides. A mid fade hits around the temple — the most common choice. A high fade takes the skin almost to the top, leaving length only on the crown.
We use clipper guards from 0 up through 1, 1.5, 2 and beyond, blending between each one so there are no lines. The whole thing takes about 40 minutes because the blending is where the skill is — rush it and you get lines.
What to tell your barber
Bring a photo
Worth a thousand words. Screenshots from Instagram work perfectly. Even if you can't describe it, we can see what you mean.
Describe the length
How much do you want on top? Do you want it textured or neat? How low should the fade start? If you don't know, just say that — we'll talk you through the options.
Ask questions
Not sure if a mid or high fade suits your face? Ask. Want to know if a zero is too aggressive? Ask. We'd rather spend a minute talking than give you something you didn't want.
How to maintain it
A skin fade looks its sharpest for about a week. After that the bottom starts growing in and the contrast softens. Most of our fade clients come back every 2 to 3 weeks.
In between visits, don't try to tidy the edges yourself with clippers. It's very easy to cut a line into the blend that then needs to be fixed. If it's growing out and bothering you, just come in — a quick tidy is always cheaper than repairing a DIY job.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a skin fade and a taper?
A taper gradually shortens the hair but keeps some length at the bottom. A skin fade goes all the way down to the skin — usually with a zero or half guard at the lowest point, then blended upward. The skin fade is sharper and more defined.
How often should I get a fade?
Every 2 to 3 weeks if you want it looking fresh. Fades grow out faster than longer styles because the contrast between skin and hair is visible quickly. Some lads come every 2 weeks on the dot.
Do you do zero fades?
Yes. We do zero fades, 0.5 fades, and skin fades with the foil. If you want it tight to the skin, just let us know when you sit down.
Can I book a skin fade online?
Yes — pick 'Skin Fade' from the booking form on our website. Choose your day and time, and you're sorted. Walk-ins are welcome too if there's a free chair.
